"Discerners"


Since 1817 young men have been attracted to Marcellin's vision "To know and love Jesus and to make him known and loved (through the Christian Education of youth - especially the most neglected." LAVALLA: The community house for the first Little Brothers of Mary


Soon after his ordination as a priest, Marcellin Champagnat's vision to begin a congregation of "Little Brothers of Mary" happened on January 2, 1817 as two young recruits moved into this house in Lavalla (France). Marcellin soon moved in with these first Brothers to guide and teach them.

Why Did Marcellin Found the Little Brothers of Mary?

In October 1816 Marcellin encountered a dying boy- Jean Baptiste Montagne. After leaving his death bed Marcellin resolved to found a group of Brothers (The Little Brothers of Mary) to teach young people in rural France about Jesus.
